Appointing a New CEO for a Global Maritime Lubricants Leader
When a global maritime lubricants leader needed to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer, they turned to Faststream Executive Search to lead the search. With a planned retirement approaching and a limited window for a successful leadership transition, the company required a global search partner with deep sector knowledge and the ability to identify and engage senior executives across multiple markets.
The Challenge
Faststream had supported the business for several years through contingent workforce solutions. When the planned retirement of the Chief Executive Officer was announced, the company approached Faststream Executive Search to lead the search for their successor.
The organisation wanted to conduct a truly global search, targeting candidates from both the marine lubricants sector and the wider marine services industry.
There were also important timing considerations. The appointment needed to be completed within a short timeframe to allow for a meaningful handover period between the outgoing CEO and their successor.
Our Approach
Faststream Executive Search assembled an experienced search team, comprising Executive Search Consultants in the UK and Singapore, working collaboratively. The project also benefited from executive oversight from Faststream’s Group CEO, Mark Charman.
To begin the search, we met with key stakeholders face-to-face to gain a detailed understanding of the organisation, its strategic direction, and the leadership qualities required in the new CEO. Working closely with the client, we also developed a tailored employer value proposition to support the search and attract high-calibre global candidates.
Using our deep knowledge of the marine lubricants and wider marine services sectors, we quickly developed a global market map of potential candidates. This enabled our team to identify and approach senior executives across multiple regions.
Candidates progressed through Faststream’s executive search selection process, including structured interviews and detailed assessments. This resulted in a refined shortlist of highly qualified and motivated candidates.
The final shortlist presented to the client included senior leaders based in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The Result
Faststream coordinated the entire interview process on behalf of the client, including scheduling interviews, managing international travel arrangements, and providing timely feedback to all parties.
Following a successful interview process, the client selected their preferred candidate. Faststream supported the final stages of the appointment, including compensation negotiation, benefits alignment, and relocation arrangements.
The successful candidate relocated from Europe to Asia to take up the role. Our Singapore team provided local guidance and on-the-ground support to ensure a smooth transition.
Outcome
The search was completed within the required timeframe, enabling a structured handover between the outgoing and incoming CEO.
The newly appointed CEO is now well established in the role, continuing to lead the organisation’s global operations, while the outgoing CEO has entered retirement after a successful tenure.
