The Company:

At a pivotal time of saving our environment, my client has developed an emission reduction solution for the marine industry. Rotor Sails can reduce emissions by up to 30% and, with their patented Deployment Systems, be installed on most merchant vessels. Their mission is to help create a sustainable future for the shipping industry by rolling out this proven wind power technology across the global shipping fleet.

The Role:

The Project Engineer will be responsible for the Technical Management of projects for the integration of Rotor Sail equipment onto ships, from pre-contract planning and discussions with clients through to final handover of the
completed project.

My client has offices in both London and Southampton, they are open to this candidate working from either.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage the technical handover from Sales on the technical design sold as part of a project, supporting the Sales team with the preliminary design where required.
• Develop a deep understanding of the technical deliverables of a project, acting as technical oversight for all engineering issues on the project bridging between integration design, all vendors (including ship designers) and others contributing to the technical solution.
• Liaise with Engineering to specify non-standard product requirements and advise during process.
• Manage technical interfaces between all parties contributing to the technical solution, and with the customer ensuring that project information is communicated clearly and in a timely manner and anticipating and preventing issues and resolving queries. This role takes the lead in technical communication prior to shipyard work commencing and then supports and guides the shipyard team during shipyard work.
• Provide the detailed specification and manage structural, electrical and hydraulic system integration designs by design consultants.
• Liaise with classification societies supporting the process for AIP and plan approval of integration designs.
• Ensuring that technical documentation is consistent and delivered to quality, cost and time expectations.
• Regular progress reporting to both the Shipyard and Project Manager to ensure that any timeline changes or issues are raised with sufficient detail for the Shipyard and Project Manager to understand and be able to consider and address the commercial consequences.
• Project handover and wrap-up including lessons learned and feedback into continuous improvement.

The Person: 

Relevant technical degree e.g. Engineering, Marine Technology or Naval Architecture

Shipping/ Maritime background – preferably with shipyard experience
Experience of managing projects from a technical perspective
Experience of working abroad
