Faststream is partnering with an international shipowner to look for an experienced General Manager – Fleet to provide strategic leadership across its managed vessel portfolio. This senior position oversees technical operations, asset performance, drydocking, newbuilding support, and the development of future-ready fleet systems.

The role requires a forward-thinking technical leader who can drive safety excellence, efficiency, digital initiatives, and compliance across a diverse and growing fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall technical management and lifecycle performance of the company’s fleet, ensuring global compliance, operational reliability, and commercial readiness.
  • Oversee planned maintenance, condition-based monitoring, drydock strategy, procurement, spares optimisation, and asset improvement programmes.
  • Provide leadership to Superintendents, Managers and Senior Technical stakeholders, setting standards and building high-performance teams.
  • Drive digitalisation, automation, and energy-efficiency initiatives to enhance vessel performance, reduce operational risk, and support sustainability targets.
  • Manage technical budgets, cost optimisation, and long-term asset planning.
  • Support newbuild strategy, vessel delivery projects, and technology assessments aligned to future propulsion and low-carbon fuels.
  • Attend vessels, engage with Masters/Chief Engineers, verify maintenance standards, and ensure adherence to ISM/ISPS/MLC and HSSEQ standards.
  • Collaborate with commercial, crewing, HSSEQ and operational teams to ensure alignment across fleet initiatives.
Requirements
  • Proven relevant leadership experience managing larger marine teams.
  • Chief Engineer (COC 1) with significant sea experience and proven shore-based managerial responsibility.
  • Strong track record overseeing drydock planning, fleet maintenance strategies and technical budgeting.
  • Demonstrated experience of dual-fuel or low-carbon propulsion technologies (e.g., LNG, methanol) and/or experience with advanced engine systems (mandatory).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, ability to influence across executive and operational levels, and a strong coaching/mentorship mindset.
  • Proven ability to lead digital transformation or technology initiatives within fleet management.
