About the Role

As Vetting and Inspections Superintendent, you will be responsible for the quality and consistency of vessel inspections and vetting assessments, ensuring they meet both internal standards and the expectations of global clients. You will play a key part in improving ship safety and performance by overseeing inspections, engaging with third-party surveyors, and contributing to the ongoing development of industry-wide best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Inspections:
  • Coordinate and review vessel inspections ordered by shipowners or managers, ensuring they are completed promptly and accurately
  • Assess the quality and consistency of inspection reports and surveyor performance
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve inspection procedures and ensure alignment with broader vetting operations
  • Support investigation and resolution of inspection-related complaints
  • Review Document of Compliance (DOC) holders for conformance with operational standards
  • Carry out vetting activities for various vessel types, including tankers and barges, based on company and client-specific criteria
  • Review PSC (Port State Control) and incident reports and assess operator performance
  • Provide technical input on vessel suitability and risk profile to stakeholders
  • Monitor regulatory developments and contribute to continuous improvement of internal vetting criteria
  • Respond to technical and operational queries from clients related to inspections, risk ratings, and vessel data
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as per internal procedures
Candidate Profile

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Chief Engineer certification with seagoing experience (preferably as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer) on internationally trading dry cargo vessels and tankers
  • Experience in a shore-based technical or marine operations role, ideally involving tanker operations or inspection management
  • OCIMF/SIRE inspector accreditation (or a willingness to obtain it) is advantageous
  • Strong understanding of ship construction, machinery, repairs, and safety management systems (ISM, ISPS, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations and best practices (e.g. IMO, ILO, STCW, ICS)
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills, with a focus on accuracy and compliance
