Technical Superintendent – Dry Bulk Fleet

A ship owning company is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the technical performance, safety, and regulatory compliance of its fleet of dry bulk vessels. The successful candidate will act as the primary liaison between the ship owning company and third-party technical managers, ensuring the fleet maintains high standards of reliability, cost-efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing and evaluating the performance of external ship management companies to ensure they meet the ship owning company’s standards and contractual obligations.
  • Conducting regular vessel inspections and attending dry docks to supervise maintenance, repairs, and condition assessments.
  • Providing technical support to the operations team by offering effective solutions to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient vessel operations.
  • Managing technical budgets, including reviewing and approving quotations for spare parts, services, and repairs to ensure cost-effective procurement aligned with quality standards.
  • Preparing and delivering detailed reports on vessel performance, condition, and technical issues to senior management, along with actionable recommendations.
  • Ensuring all vessels comply with Class, Flag State, and international regulatory requirements (such as ISM, ISPS, MLC, MARPOL, SOLAS).
  • Maintaining professional relationships with shipyards, surveyors, classification societies, and relevant authorities to facilitate smooth operations and inspections.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Holds a Chief Engineer license or possesses a Marine Engineering degree (preferred).
  • Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the dry bulk shipping sector.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of dry bulk vessel systems, dry docking procedures, and technical operations.
  • Experienced in working with or overseeing third-party technical managers.
  • Proficient in budget planning and cost control related to vessel technical management.
  • Skilled in using fleet management systems and reporting tools.
  • Exhibits strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willing and able to travel internationally on short notice.
