Job Description

This is a senior, site-based role overseeing the survey and verification of complex mechanical and machinery systems on naval vessels under construction in Glasgow. It offers the opportunity to remain technically hands-on while benefiting from a stable working environment.

The role will be based within a major UK shipyard, and you will play a key role in the classification and compliance of naval newbuild projects, ensuring machinery installations meet class and statutory requirements.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and conducting surveys of marine machinery systems during new construction
  • Witnessing testing, commissioning, and installation activities
  • Verifying compliance with classification rules and naval standards
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for shipyard and project stakeholders
  • Producing detailed reports and certification documentation
  • Supporting and mentoring more junior surveyors where required
About You:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a classification society
  • Strong experience in ship new construction projects
  • In-depth knowledge of marine machinery systems
  • Experience working on naval or defence-related projects (highly desirable)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and reporting skills
