Summary
This role oversees architectural outfitting for newbuild cruise ship projects, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and alignment with design intent, regulations, and sustainability standards. The superintendent acts as a key link between design teams, site offices, and shipyards, driving outfitting optimization and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage outfitting for interior areas, open decks, staterooms, accommodations, catering, and public spaces.
- Oversee design reviews, inspections, mock-ups, and factory visits to ensure quality, cost control, and compliance.
- Coordinate design modifications, technical integrations, and outfitting transitions between areas.
- Conduct regular site walkthroughs, reporting on progress, quality, risks, and schedule adherence.
- Support value engineering efforts to optimize cost without compromising design.
- Lead mock-up reviews and first-of-production inspections for guest and public areas.
- Track lessons learned from previous builds and integrate them into ongoing projects.
- Collaborate with architects, designers, shipyards, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Mentor team members and contribute to professional development.
- 5+ years’ experience in cruise ship construction and outfitting, with strong knowledge of shipbuilding processes.
- Bachelor’s degree required (architecture or naval architecture preferred).
- Solid understanding of SOLAS, IMO, ILO, and USPHS regulations.
- Proven track record managing large-scale projects.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed design and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of architectural materials and technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work across cultures and teams.
- Skilled in problem-solving, decision-making, and simplifying complex concepts.
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency in presentation and communication software.
- Physically fit to navigate shipbuilding environments (walking, stair climbing, noise exposure).
- Willingness to travel and support multiple projects as needed.
