Seafarer Training & Development Manager

Location: Duba | Type: Permanent

Faststream are partnering with a global operator / ship manager to appoint a Seafarer Training & Development Manager to lead training, competence and development across their seagoing workforce.
This is a high-impact role with real visibility—owning the training portfolio end-to-end, strengthening competence assurance, and ensuring crews are fully aligned to statutory, safety, operational and client expectations.

The role

Reporting into senior crewing leadership, you'll take ownership of the company's training and competence strategy for seafarers across the managed fleet. You'll combine structured analysis (performance trends, audits, incidents) with practical delivery (programmes, providers, tools) to continuously raise standards.
Key responsibilities
  • Own and maintain the crew training portfolio, including a Training & Qualification Matrix aligned to regulatory, safety, operational and client requirements.
  • Review performance inputs (appraisals, audits, incident investigations, client feedback) to identify training needs and improvement priorities.
  • Source, design and implement effective training programmes and training management tools.
  • Build and maintain a clear Seafarer Competence Management System, providing both competence assurance and development pathways by rank.
  • Evaluate and select training providers—auditing, benchmarking and ensuring best value (with procurement support).
  • Stay current with industry best practice in training, competence development and learning methodologies.
  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on training initiatives and contribute to investigations when training input is required.
  • Produce reporting that shows the impact of training on safety/operational KPIs and crew engagement.
  • Develop annual training budgets and manage expenditure, providing clear justification for variances.
  • Manage direct reports and coordinate across internal and external stakeholders.
What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree (ideally maritime related).
  • Minimum 3 years' shore-based experience in Seafarer Training / Competence / Development.
  • Strong written and verbal English.
  • Knowledge of QMS / ISO 9001 (or similar structured management systems).
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical capability, and high proficiency in Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Seagoing experience in a management capacity is an advantage.
  • Course development / adult learning exposure is a plus.
Why consider it
  • Opportunity to shape training standards and competence assurance across an LNG fleet
  • Visibility with senior stakeholders and measurable impact on safety and performance
  • A business investing in people, systems and continuous improvement
