A leading maritime organisation is seeking a Port Operations Superintendent to coordinate the port operational and commercial aspects of assigned vessels. The ideal candidate will have practical, hands-on experience in port operations—whether gained shoreside or onboard in a purser or agency capacity. Candidates must have direct involvement with port bookings, PDA/FDA handling, fuel management, and other port-related operational tasks. Applicants with purely navigational backgrounds, such as Captains or officers focused solely on cargo operations, will not be considered suitable for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for port agents and vessel owners regarding port operation matters.
- Manage the operational and commercial execution of assigned vessel itineraries.
- Conduct itinerary feasibility checks, costings, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Monitor trading areas, itineraries, deviations, and all operational requirements.
- Coordinate with owners and internal departments on port, bunkering, and voyage-related matters.
- Arrange port bookings, berth/anchorage reservations, and supervise Port Agent appointments and performance.
- Manage PDAs and FDAs, ensuring timely prefunding and accurate budget control.
- Handle bunker planning, fuel budgeting, and invoice processing.
- Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and internal procedures.
- Track operational KPIs and support process improvements and continuous development.
- Experience with MXP is considered an advantage.
- Represent the organisation at meetings, forums, and operational visits as required.
- Complete assignments and projects designated by the Head of Department.
- Maintain full familiarity with, and implement effectively, the Company Management System.
- 1–2 years of experience in port operations OR relevant experience as a shipboard Purser or port agency/shore-based port operations staff.
- Direct experience with port operations tasks such as port bookings, PDA/FDA handling, and fuel management.
- Strong operational understanding of vessel activities.
- Good knowledge of port regulations and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- MXP experience is an advantage.
