Job Description

We are partnering with a maritime organisation supporting critical port and marine services in the region. They are seeking an experienced Operations Manager (Tugs) to oversee safe, efficient and compliant tug and harbour craft operations.

Location: Papua New Guinea

This is an operational role with direct responsibility for people, assets, safety performance and stakeholder management in a challenging and dynamic operating environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall operational management of tug and harbour craft fleet, including harbour, coastal and international operations
  • Ensure safe execution of towage, pilotage support, emergency response and salvage-related operations where required
  • Lead Masters, crews and shore teams to deliver high standards of HSSEQ, operational readiness and reliability
  • Develop and implement operational procedures, risk assessments and emergency response plans
  • Interface closely with port authorities, terminals, clients, regulators and external stakeholders
  • Manage incidents, near-misses and investigations, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions
  • Support fleet planning, crew deployment, training and competency management
  • Contribute to budgeting, cost control and continuous operational improvement initiatives
Requirements
  • Master Mariner (Unlimited) – mandatory
  • Strong experience across harbour towage, international operations and salvage
  • Proven operational leadership within tug or harbour craft environments
  • Solid understanding of ISM Code, maritime regulations and port operations
  • Calm, decisive leader with strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience working in remote or developing operating environments preferred
