Faststream Recruitment is partnering with a shipowner and ship management company to recruit a Newbuilding Superintendent to support their growing fleet development programme.
This role will act as the Owner’s Representative at shipyards, overseeing container vessel newbuilding projects and ensuring construction meets the owner’s specifications, classification requirements and regulatory standards.
The role will involve frequent travel to China to work closely with shipyards and site supervision teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Owner’s Representative at shipyards for container vessel newbuilding projects
- Oversee construction progress and ensure compliance with design specifications, class rules and regulatory requirements
- Supervise inspections, testing and commissioning of hull, machinery and onboard systems
- Review and approve inspection plans, testing procedures and quality control documentation
- Coordinate closely with shipyards, classification societies, and project stakeholders
- Attend sea trials and support vessel delivery
- Monitor project timelines, quality standards and technical performance throughout the build process
- Degree in Marine Engineering or Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency
- Previous experience as Newbuilding Superintendent / Site Representative for container vessel newbuildings
- Strong understanding of shipbuilding standards, construction sequences and inspection processes
- Experience working with Chinese shipyards is highly preferred
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin to liaise effectively with shipyards and project stakeholders in China.
- Willingness to travel frequently to China
