HSEQ Superintendent

About the Role

A well‑established ship management company is seeking an HSEQ Superintendent to join its team in Athens. The position is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the company’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality systems, supporting vessels in maintaining safe and compliant operations in line with international maritime standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and develop the company’s HSEQ management systems in line with ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO, and relevant maritime regulations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned vessels on all HSEQ matters.
  • Conduct and participate in internal audits, navigational assessments, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Review incident and near‑miss reports, oversee root‑cause analysis, and ensure timely follow‑up of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support vessels in preparation for external inspections, port state control, and vetting activities.
  • Monitor vessel performance related to safety, environmental compliance, and operational integrity.
  • Contribute to crew training initiatives and promote continuous improvement across the fleet.
  • Liaise closely with Masters and senior officers onboard to support a strong operational and safety culture.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Seagoing experience as Chief Officer on Container, Tanker, or Bulk vessels.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, industry standards, and vessel operations.
  • Proven understanding of safety management systems, incident investigation processes, and HSEQ best practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide guidance to vessel crews and stakeholders.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple vessels and competing priorities.
Preferred
  • Prior shore‑based experience in an HSEQ, marine, or operations role.
  • Candidates already based in Athens due to the collaborative and office‑based nature of the position.
