Newbuild Surveyor (Hull)
Location: Adelaide, Australia
A global maritime classification organisation is looking for an experienced Newbuild Surveyor to join its site-based team in Adelaide. This role focuses on providing survey and inspection oversight for hull construction during vessel newbuilding projects, ensuring that shipyard activities comply with classification rules, contractual requirements, and industry standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with shipyard teams, project managers, and technical specialists to monitor construction progress, review technical documentation, and provide guidance on compliance and quality throughout the build process. The role also involves preparing survey reports, supporting client discussions, and contributing technical expertise to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the required standards.
We are looking for candidates with a degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or relevant maritime qualifications combined with sea-going experience as a certified ship’s officer. Strong knowledge of vessel new construction—particularly hull structures and shipyard processes—is essential. Experience working with classification societies or within the shipbuilding industry would be highly advantageous.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a site-based shipyard environment, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Candidates should also be eligible to obtain the required security clearances for defence-related projects.
