The Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Director to join a leading ship management company in Southern Europe. This strategic role will focus on driving growth and profitability by identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities within the maritime sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the company’s market presence, building strong partnerships, and establishing long-term relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
What You Will Be Doing
Reporting closely to the Managing Director, your responsibilities will include:
Leadership & Representation
- Promote and embody the company’s mission, vision, and values.
- Operate in accordance with the company’s Code of Conduct.
- Lead, guide, and support office staff to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Represent the company in meetings, conferences/ exhibitions, presentations, and industry events.
- Serve as a key contact for clients, vendors, and senior management.
- Develop, implement, and monitor business development strategies with clear objectives, targets, and measurable KPIs.
- Prepare and execute the annual Business Development Plan in collaboration with the Managing Director.
- Identify opportunities by researching the maritime industry, tracking competitors, and leveraging market intelligence.
- Generate new business through established contacts and proactive outreach to potential clients.
- Coordinate management offers and tenders for prospective clients and monitor follow-up activities.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing clients through regular engagement and visits.
- Ensure all internal stakeholders are fully informed of business development activities.
- Respond promptly and professionally to client enquiries and manage complaints effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of customer and prospect data, while safeguarding sensitive information.
- Demonstrate creativity, proactivity, and innovation in identifying new business opportunities.
- University degree in a relevant commercial or business discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in a commercial or business development role, ideally in B2B environments such as shipping, marine, or oil & gas.
- Proven track record of generating growth and securing new business.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English; Greek, Spanish, or Italian language skills are advantageous.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate teams and foster a collaborative culture.
- Results-oriented mindset, customer-focused, with exceptional problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
