Job Description

A rare senior level opportunity has opened within a highly respected, specialist marine legal team experiencing strong growth. This role is ideal for a solicitor with solid dry shipping experience who wants autonomy, progression, and the chance to build something meaningful within a tight knit, high performing environment.

The Opportunity
You’ll join a small, agile team handling a diverse range of marine and commercial disputes. This includes:
  • Shipping disputes and commercial litigation
  • Cargo claims (damage, shortage, contamination)
  • Charterparty disputes
  • FD&D, P&I, casualty, fire, and related advisory work
You’ll take on your own caseload, work directly with shipowners, charterers, traders and P&I clubs, and have genuine freedom to shape how you operate. There is a clear, achievable route to progress to Director level for someone who wants to take ownership and help drive the practice forward.

What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified solicitor, ideally England & Wales
  • Strong background in maritime / dry shipping / commercial litigation
  • Confident in arbitration and litigation
  • Able to manage client relationships at a high level
  • Commercially minded with proven BD ability or the appetite to build a portfolio
  • Sharp, intelligent, values led, and highly motivated
  • Someone who thrives in a “go getter”, ambitious setting
  • Professionals from reputable shipping, trade, insurance, or boutique litigation backgrounds will be particularly suited.
Location: Newcastle (preferred) or Plymouth | 4 days office / 1 day remote | Relocation for someone looking for a London-escape considered!
Salary: £75,000 (open to discussion) + excellent benefits
PQE: 4+ years (flexible depending on experience)

What This Role Offers
  • The ability to genuinely influence and shape your work
  • A high-quality marine caseload with direct client exposure
  • Strong internal support balanced with real autonomy
  • Clear, merit-based progression with no glass ceiling
  • Exposure to sophisticated, high-value maritime disputes
  • A supportive, intellectually sharp team that values growth
  • Lifestyle-friendly locations, with London candidates welcome to relocate
  • A stable, ambitious team with long-term prospects
  • Benefits discussed on application
Please apply with your cv and we will be in touch to discuss the company name. We will not put your application forward without your consent and discussing with you confidentially, first. If you’re an experienced marine litigator ready for the next step, this is an exceptional opportunity.
