The Role: In this pivotal role, the Principal Mechanical Test Engineer will collaborate with a team of engineers to conduct comprehensive testing of submarine and surface ship structures. This will involve evaluating their performance against the rigorous conditions they will encounter throughout their service life. Additionally, the role includes supporting colleagues in Structural Analysis and Non-Destructive Evaluation to ensure the integrity and safety of maritime structures.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead technical authority and project manager, overseeing all aspects of time, cost, and quality for both team and individual tasks.
- Generate proactive engineering solutions and deliver them in a timely manner by engaging in various forms of communication, both formal and informal.
- Define and execute technical work plans, managing resources and tasks in collaboration with the project manager, while also addressing schedule, budget, risks, dependencies, and constraints.
- Implement robust governance processes to confirm that technical solutions adhere to all relevant regulatory, legal, safety, and engineering standards.

The Person: 
- Proven track record in a significant engineering role, with a focus on mechanical testing
- Proficiency in fatigue analysis and conducting rigorous testing procedures
- Advanced knowledge of structural fatigue, fracture mechanics, and materials science
- Experience in materials testing, including robust data collection and analytical skills
- Solid understanding of welding techniques and metallurgical failure mechanisms
- Competence in Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods and their impact on maritime engineering standards
- Desirable: Familiarity with scripting or programming, preferably in Python
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent professional qualification
- Right to work and live in the UK and be able to obtain SC clearance
