MCA Instructor 

A leading maritime training organisation is seeking a motivated MCA Instructor to join their specialist training team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing the next generation of seafarers while contributing to one of the UK’s most respected maritime education centres.

Purpose of the Role You will be responsible for delivering high-quality training across a suite of MCA and STCW courses, ensuring an exceptional learning experience for all involved. We are open for candidate to be based on the mainland, but would need to commute with the intention to relocate to the IoW.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Deliver lectures and practical training across all STCW modules.
  • Teach a variety of MCA Officer of the Watch courses, including but not limited to:
    • Navigation & Radar
    • General Ship Knowledge
    • ECDIS
    • GMDSS General Operator Certificate
    • Efficient Deck Hand (EDH)
    • PSCRB
    • Small Ships Navigation & Radar
    • Approved Workboat Stability
  • Maintain, organise and procure training resources required for MCA courses.
  • Contribute to lesson observations and provide constructive feedback to colleagues.
  • Update existing course materials and develop new, industry-leading training content.
  • Develop high-quality training aids to enhance the learner experience.
  • Respond professionally to customer feedback to continuously improve training quality.
  • Participate in daily and monthly team meetings, contributing ideas and solutions.
  • Uphold equality, diversity and safeguarding policies at all times.
Person Specification Essential
  • Strong knowledge of MCA & MNTB training schemes.
  • Understanding of maritime career pathways and sea-going operations.
  • STCW CoC or Chief Mate (Yacht 3000GT) or equivalent.
  • Experience presenting, coaching or training students/colleagues.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Passionate about delivering high-quality education and customer service.
  • Right to Work in the UK (No Sponsored Candidates)
Desirable
  • Experience maintaining or operating TRANSAS bridge simulators.
  • STCW CoC Chief Mate (Unlimited II/2).
  • Teaching qualification such as PTLLS or equivalent.
  • Experience giving and receiving structured feedback.
  • Seagoing experience as an Officer or Chief Mate.
