The Marine Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the safe, secure, and compliant operation of assigned vessels. This role acts as the primary link between shore management and onboard teams, overseeing safety, environmental protection, and operational performance. The position ensures vessels receive the necessary resources and support, while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Reporting Line

  • Location: Marseille, France
Key Responsibilities Safety, Compliance & Operations
  • Ensure full compliance with maritime regulations and company safety management systems (SMS).
  • Oversee ISPS, SOPEP, and certification management.
  • Manage safety meetings, emergency response processes, and onboard management reviews.
  • Conduct internal and external audits.
  • Oversee incident prevention, investigations, and P&I insurance matters.
  • Ensure SMS familiarisation and briefing of senior officers.
Crew & Resource Management
  • Oversee crewing OPEX accounts.
  • Conduct crew performance appraisals.
  • Support crewing activities and develop onboard leadership through briefings and evaluations.
Vessel Support & Coordination
  • Monitor charts, publications, and navigational readiness.
  • Coordinate with charterers and ensure charter party requirements are implemented onboard.
  • Support Technical Superintendents where required.
  • Manage ad‑hoc projects assigned by senior fleet leadership.

Qualifications & Experience Education & Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of the maritime industry and stakeholder landscape.
  • Meets qualification requirements for Designated Person Ashore (DPA) as per MSC‑MEPC.7/Circ.6.
  • Completed approved DPA and Company Security Officer (CSO) courses.
  • Relevant maritime or industry qualifications.
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year sailing experience as Master.
  • At least 1 year shore-based experience in an HSEQ role.
  • Proven leadership experience within a maritime operational environment.
