Location: Brisbane, Australia.
This position will focus on the safe and efficient marine management of Heavy Lift and Multipurpose (MPV) vessels, supporting complex cargo operations across regional and international trades.
The Role
Reporting into senior marine leadership, you will take ownership of marine operations for assigned vessels, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational performance.
This is a highly operational role requiring regular vessel attendance and close collaboration with Masters, Port Captains, and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with ISM, ISPS, MLC, flag state, and class requirements
- Oversee heavy lift and project cargo operations, including pre-loading risk assessments and stability reviews
- Conduct vessel inspections, navigational audits, and safety assessments
- Provide hands-on operational guidance during complex cargo operations
- Lead incident investigations and drive corrective/preventive actions
- Liaise with charterers, terminals, project stakeholders, and internal departments
- Mentor Masters and deck officers to strengthen safety culture and navigational standards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the fleet
To be considered, you should have:
- Master Mariner (FG) certification
- Sailing experience as Master on Heavy Lift / MPV / General Cargo vessels for min. 2 years
- Shore-based experience as Marine Superintendent, Port Captain, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of project cargo operations and heavy lift risk management
- Solid working knowledge of ISM / ISPS / MLC and vetting requirements
- Ability to travel frequently
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership capability
- Full Australian working rights (essential – visa sponsorship is not available for this position)
