Faststream are working with an innovative offshore renewable technology company who are seeking a Marine Structural Engineer to join their expanding team of dedicated and passionate engineers & designers developing their floating wind platform systems.

This role is based in their Swansea office on a hybrid basis.
The Role:
You’ll be working in the Engineering team and reporting to the Chief Engineer. The engineering team conduct technical simulation and engineering calculations as well as conducting engineering development activities and providing a technical interface to expert subcontractors for the company. The engineering team supports the projects and design teams in the development and customization of their products. You will work in all stages of the design lifecycle from concept to detailed design.
They’re looking for structural engineers with experience in offshore structural design. As well as conducting structural analysis calculations and FEA simulation, the successful candidate will have input into concepts with a structural perspective, they will also lead on material selection and technical liaison with experienced structural subcontractors.
Responsibilities-
• Providing in-house expertise to the projects and development teams, particularly in structural simulation (FEA) and structural design.
• Support and provide technical liaison with subcontractors in structural design and simulation.
• Structural analysis of the platform and sub-systems using industry standard finite element analysis software.
• Technical input to the design for manufacture process (particularly welding methods and specifications).
• Technical review of subcontractor’s documents where structural design is considered.
• Instructing design team on structural design details and fabrication drawing structural information.
• Review and approval of structural CAD models and drawings.
• Technical input to inspection and maintenance requirements.
• Technical liaison with engineering consultants, contractors and manufacturers.
• Technical input to corrosion protection philosophy and specification.
• Technical guidance based on knowledge/research of the relevant structural design codes, standards and legislation.
• Preparation of technical and quality documentation including specifications, design reports and design process descriptions.
• Technical input and advice relating to the design and construction of structural systems and components.
• Technical analyses will be required utilising various CAE methods and tools.
• Technical input to risk analysis process (e.g., FMECA, HAZID, HAZOP).
The Person:
• Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine, Mechanical, Civil or Structural engineering or related discipline.
• Good experience of working to structural codes and standards.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar technical role.
• Capability in use of commercial finite element analysis codes.
• A strong knowledge of offshore structural concepting and design.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Good organisational skills and ability to work under challenging timescales.
• A genuine interest and passion for addressing the challenges of energy generation at sea.
• Valid Driving License for UK.
Desirable Skills & Experience-
• Good knowledge of relevant marine renewable energy and structural codes and standards.
• Experience in floating offshore wind or other marine renewable energy.
• Good knowledge of corrosion protection.
• Good knowledge of CAD software (e.g., Rhino, Inventor, Solidworks)
• Good experience in design and construction of large steel fabrications and assemblies.
• Good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes.
