Opportunity for a Field Service Engineer to join the market leaders in clean marine technology.

Silverstream Technologies has successfully developed and deployed a market-leading clean marine technology solution over the last ten years - The Silverstream® System. Our Air Lubrication System (ALS) fundamentally changes the interaction between water and a vessel's hull, creating a carpet of microbubbles that coats the flat bottom of a vessel. As a result, frictional resistance is reduced - dramatically improving a vessel's fuel consumption and associated emissions.

The role

The primary activity for this role will be to visit/support vessels fitted with, or being fitted with, the Silverstream® System.  Scope of duties will include, fault diagnosis and repair, support of commissioning and sea trial activities, carrying out surveys of existing ALS installations and potential new installations, as well as providing system training to ship crew and internal personnel. Furthermore, the Field Engineer is required to support the Customer Support Department, and wider business, in solving technical/warranty issues and performing investigations through robust corrective action methodology.

The responsibilities

  • Carry out on board diagnosis and repairs.

  • Support commissioning and sea trial activities.

  • Carry out periodic inspections and surveys of installed systems.

  • Assess the feasibility of retrofit installation of ALS.

  • Provide at ship ALS training to ship crew and internal employees, and actively support the development of training material and programmes.

  • Provide concise but informative written reports of all ship visits.

  • Sharing lessons learnt in a collaborative way both informal and formal.

  • Engaging in formal feedback processes in the continual pursuit of system quality and performance improvements.

  • When required, support and monitor 3rd party OEM’s and contractors in carrying out warranty and retail repairs, and commissioning activities on Silverstream’s behalf.

The qualifications and experience

  • Degree in Marine Engineering, related subject or equivalent qualifications and/or experience.

  • Significant and demonstratable experience of marine automation systems or air compressor/air delivery within an industrial setting, ideally marine

  • Ability to read and interpret both mechanical and electrical drawings.

  • Ability to work independently, even when from a remote location.

  • Demonstratable knowledge of safe working practices including risk assessments.

  • Proven ability to work professionally for relatively long periods of time in remote and often unfamiliar countries and cultures, including as a ship riding Engineer.
