Overview:

A prominent shipbuilding and marine engineering group is seeking a visionary and technically accomplished professional to join as Assistant Director, Engineering. This senior leadership role will support the strategic oversight and operational excellence of the engineering function across multiple yard locations. The selected individual will serve as the right-hand to the current Head of Engineering and is positioned as the next-in-line to lead the division.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in directing the full scope of engineering operations across various yards, covering Hull, Machinery, Electrical, Piping, Accommodation, and Design departments.
  • Drive engineering excellence and project execution across newbuild, conversion, and repair programs, ensuring compliance with international codes and client specifications.
  • Lead technical reviews and decision-making on design matters, value engineering, and process standardization.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders—Production, Commercial, Project Management, and QA/QC—to ensure seamless integration of engineering deliverables.
  • Engage with classification societies, clients, and regulatory authorities on complex technical issues.
  • Champion innovation, digital transformation, and productivity enhancements within engineering processes.
  • Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to strengthen leadership bench and succession readiness.
  • Support strategic planning, budget management, resource forecasting, and performance tracking of the engineering function.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree or MBA is advantageous.
  • At least 12–15 years of progressive experience in shipbuilding or offshore engineering, including 5+ years in a senior engineering leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams across complex, large-scale marine projects.
  • Deep understanding of classification requirements, IMO regulations, and shipyard workflows.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Regional exposure across Southeast Asia yards is a plus.
