On behalf of a highly respected ship repair facility in the maritime engineering sector, we are seeking a Technical Director to lead and further develop the technical operations across multiple departments. This is a strategic, senior level appointment offering the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a technically ambitious and internationally positioned company.

As Technical Director, you will have full responsibility for the leadership, performance, and strategic development of the company’s technical service operations. You will manage and support department heads across Mechanical, Machining, Welding, and Propulsion Systems, ensuring high levels of technical competency, operational efficiency, and alignment with long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor departmental managers, fostering a high-performance culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute technical strategies that enhance operational capability and service offering.
  • Support recruitment efforts to strengthen technical depth within the organisation.
  • Implement effective processes to ensure measurable performance across each technical department as individual cost centres.
  • Oversee and improve training programmes to ensure a multi-skilled, adaptable, and efficient workforce.
  • Maintain robust systems for evaluating staff performance and skills in line with company objectives.
  • Participate in sales and business development efforts related to specific job orders and client relationships.
  • Ensure all technical assets are properly maintained through effective planning and oversight.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and the broader management team in planning processes, including the Annual Operating Plan and Long Term Strategy.
  • Take an active role in the preparation and supervision of technical proposals, offers, and tenders.
Requirements
  • Proven track record in a senior technical leadership role within an industrial, engineering, or maritime setting.
  • Strong understanding of operational performance management, cost control, and strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership, technical competency development, and cross-departmental coordination.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is essential.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
