Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Shipping Operator for Tankers to oversee all aspects of our shipping operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper operation of controlled vessels during time charters or spot hires, adhering to global standards and international regulations. This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and in-depth knowledge of the oil trading industry and maritime regulations.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of shipping operations, including vessels such as MR, Aframax, and Suezmax.
  • Plan and execute voyages in compliance with international regulations and charter party requirements.
  • Optimize vessel deployment, improve operations, and manage costs effectively.
  • Provide voyage instructions and guidance to vessels.
  • Advise chartering and trading desks on tank cleaning procedures and potential contamination risks.
  • Conduct vessel screenings based on the company's vetting criteria.
  • Communicate with charterers, brokers, agents, and vessels regarding voyage orders and itineraries.
  • Monitor vessel performance during voyages, focusing on speed and fuel consumption.
  • Handle bunker and route optimization.
  • Coordinate with port agents for DA payment, agency fees, and other negotiation processes.
  • Manage documentation, including letters of indemnity and protest.
  • Maintain and update the SoftMar system with required information.
  • Resolve ship chartering issues such as disputes and claims.
  • Collaborate with the demurrage department to provide necessary information and documentation for timely demurrage calculations.
  • Support the credit control department in retrieving outstanding payments.
  • Act as a communication bridge in case of vessel emergencies such as collisions, groundings, or fires.
  • Maintain complete voyage files for each vessel in the fleet.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Maritime or Nautical Studies.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the shipping industry, with a focus on oil trading.
  • Strong understanding of the international ship management environment, preferably within the tanker industry.
  • Proficiency in ship agency business operations.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese, with the ability to give and receive clear instructions in both languages.
  • Autonomous, proactive, and forward-thinking mindset.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Adaptability and quick problem-solving abilities in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with an emphasis on minimizing risk and optimizing company interests.
