Role Overview As a Shipbroker in our Santiago office, you will play a key role in brokering dry bulk cargoes and vessels, building long-term client relationships, and navigating the complexities of global maritime trade. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-volume deals in a vibrant regional hub, with exposure to international markets and 24/7 operational support from our global network.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure chartering opportunities for dry bulk commodities, including Handysize, Supra/Ultramax, and Panamax/Kamsarmax vessels.
- Negotiate contracts, rates, and terms between ship owners, charterers, and operators to achieve optimal market outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients in South America and beyond, providing proactive market insights and advisory services.
- Monitor market trends, freight rates, and commodity flows to inform brokerage strategies and risk management.
- Collaborate with internal teams (operations, finance, and research) to ensure seamless execution of fixtures and compliance with industry standards.
- Contribute to business development by expanding our client portfolio in the region.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Maritime Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in shipbroking, chartering, or freight forwarding, preferably in dry bulk sectors.
- Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record in negotiations and deal-closing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English and Spanish is essential (Portuguese a plus).
- Ambitious, hardworking, and collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in a high-pressure, target-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and chartering software (e.g., Veson or similar); knowledge of market data platforms is advantageous.
