Job Description

Due to company restructure, our client a UK based shipowner are seeking a Senior Technical Director to join their leadership team, to lead and inspire their technical operational team.
  
  
This role can be based in our clients London or North West UK office, with hybrid working. The company operates their vessels on a 24-hour basis, 365 days of the year, and so there will be a requirement to respond at short notice with weekend working being required.
  
  
The purpose of the role is to:
  
  
Ensure the efficient management and technical performance of companies vessels 
Promote a strong safety culture throughout his/her team and onboard the vessel.
Hold responsibility for the safe management of operation and pollution prevention activities of all group owned and managed vessels, taking all reasonably practicable steps to prevent injury to personnel or damage to the environment arising out of company activities.
Drive a culture that adheres to the Group’s purpose and valued behaviors.
Promote excellence and lead by example.
Lead, manage, and mentor the technical team and provide the technical team with a clear vision for future achievements.
Ensure that the commercial requirements of the fleet are met and downtime is minimised as far as practicably possible.

In collaboration with the Divisional Managing Director, develop and implement strategies for all of the five Group stakeholders.
  
  
As a shipowner, our client's requirement for the incoming Senior Technical Director is that they must have a background within the ship-management industry as a Ship Manager/Superintendent/Naval Architect, specifically within a tanker environment, alternatively within the offshore shipping industry.
  
  
Candidates will have sea time, ideally, as an Engineering Officer and would have achieved a senior rank at sea (Chief or 2nd Engineer).
  
  
They will also have worked as a Fleet Manager or as a member of a senior leadership team within a tanker company organization.
  
  
Candidates will also be expected to put safety first and demonstrate a proven commitment to safety culture track record and passion to continually drive best practice safety culture.
  
  
As this is a senior position candidate will also have total ownership of Vessel OPEX and CAPEX
budgets.


The Senior Technical Director must be a people leader, who will be active and in regular contact with their staff and wider team. Our client  are looking for someone with proven change management experience.
