Job Title: Senior Ship Manager
Reports to: Fleet Operations Manager
Location: Home-based (UK Mainland) with regular travel

Purpose:
Responsible for the full operational management, maintenance, safety, and readiness of assigned vessels. Leads the Ship Group team, ensuring compliance with company procedures, regulations, and stakeholder standards. Directly manages Masters and Chief Engineers and drives vessel performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of vessel operations, maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Ship Managers, Assistant Ship Managers, and vessel crew.
  • Manage budgets, maintenance planning, and cost control for assigned vessels.
  • Prepare and execute dry docks, repairs, and surveys; liaise with class and contractors.
  • Conduct vessel inspections, audits, and incident investigations as per company standards.
  • Ensure effective planned maintenance and continuous operational improvement.
  • Support recruitment, appraisal, and development of onboard and shore-based staff.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours emergency response rota.
Travel:
Frequent vessel visits and occasional sailing periods (UK, Europe, Caribbean). Regular attendance at company offices as required.

Skills & Experience:
  • Marine Engineering background preferred.
  • Proven ship management or superintendent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of tanker operations, maritime regulations, and safety systems.
  • Experienced with PMS/SMS software (e.g., AMOS, ShipPalm) and dry-docking tools (e.g., REFMAN).
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
