Faststream is partnering with a prestigious maritime organization to find a skilled Port Captain to oversee and ensure efficient, safe, and compliant cargo operations across the Far East.

What You'll Be Doing:
Operations Department:
  • Assess cargo uplift and determine space requirements for steel and breakbulk cargo.
  • Create detailed stowage plans and perform relevant calculations.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on cargo handling and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise ship Masters and Owners on stowage plans and seamanship practices.
  • Supervise cargo hold preparations and cleaning operations.
Chartering Department:
  • Evaluate vessels' suitability for specific cargoes and contracts.
  • Assess cargo compatibility and safety for transport.
  • Provide technical details and guidance on vessel capabilities.
  • Participate in vessel scheduling and operations planning meetings.
  • Analyze and negotiate stevedoring quotations for loading and discharging operations.
On-Site Operations:
  • Oversee cargo stowage and securing at various Far East ports.
  • Coordinate and supervise stevedore teams and vessel scheduling.
  • Manage special loading and unloading operations, including pre-inspection of special cargoes.
  • Represent the company, facilitating communication between vessel crews, stevedores, and office teams.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with international and national maritime regulations and best practices.
  • Share your knowledge and experience with colleagues in Operations and Chartering.
You're Ideal for This Role if You Have:
  • A valid license and experience as Master or Chief Officer on ocean-going vessels.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a Port Captain or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of ship construction, structural integrity, trim, stability, and cargo safety.
  • Extensive experience with stowage, securing, and handling breakbulk cargo, steel, and heavy lifts.
  • Familiarity with grain stability calculations, IMSBC Code, and related regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in both English and Mandarin to manage Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and independence.
  • Proficiency with computers and maritime software tools.
Other Requirements:
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel within the region.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, including weekends as needed.
