Operations Manager - Tankers – Greece

Our client is seeking an Operations Manager to lead the way in Greece (Athens) and be the first person in Operations to expedite growth for the business. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly driven individual.
This person will be responsible for the continuous monitoring of charter vessel operations within the tanker fleet. This role focuses on optimising vessels' commercial performance through strategic vessel operations and bunker planning. The manager will maintain vessels' P&L by managing marine and commercial risk through critical thinking and effective decision-making.

Main Responsibilities:
  • End-to-end management of time charter vessels operations for crude, clean/dirty petroleum.
  • Conduct all freight operational activities promptly and professionally, ensuring all obligations and requirements under the charter party contract terms are met.
  • Schedule and operate vessels to load and deliver cargoes along the value chain, capitalising on opportunities to cross-sell.
  • Ensure efficient operation of time-chartered vessels, including issuing voyage orders, preparing cargo tanks, and issuing LOIs in accordance with charter party terms.
  • Deal with cargo and freight counterparties, terminals, and vessels regularly to ensure all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met.
  • Liaise with charterers to ensure smooth operations, avoid disruption, and optimise vessel returns and usage.
  • Optimise bunker procurement in terms of location and cost in close liaison with freight traders and in line with company policy and guidelines.
  • Pre-empt issues to avoid delays that could affect profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and governmental requirements and adhere to HSSE/Safety guidelines.
The successful candidate will have:
  • Strong business connections in Athens.
  • ‘Time at sea’ with hands-on vessel operations experience.
  • 5 years+ commercial, shoreside experience.
  • Fluent Greek language
  • IMOS voyage software (desirable)
  • Ability to work under pressure with high resilience.
  • Good stakeholder management.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner with strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Highly effective planning and organisation skills to meet demanding schedules and goals.
  • Natural networker, owning the life of the deal to maximise margins.
