Faststream are working with an innovative offshore renewable technology company. They are seeking a qualified Marine Engineer or Naval Architect to join their team.

The successful candidate will take on a key role, working with their senior Naval Architect and Marine Structures Lead engineer, the successful candidate will provide technical input to the design and construction of the main floating structural elements of the technology. They will also work closely with experienced subcontractors that will undertake significant work packages to design the main floating structure of the system. The role will focus on structural and hydrodynamic simulations (including Orcaflex and finite element analysis software) but will also involve technical liaison, engineering, design for the marine environment and design for construction/O&M. With support from their Leads, the successful candidate will provide expertise in stability and strength design of the system.

The Role: 
▪    Providing in-house expertise to the project and team, particularly in hydrodynamic and structural simulation (predominantly Orcaflex).
▪    Support and provide technical liaison with subcontractors in platform, mooring, anchor and umbilical (physical) design and simulation.
▪      Simulating hydrodynamic/ structural interaction to specify loading for design. This may include coupled hydrodynamic structural analyses using industry standard software.
▪      Simulating the dynamic response of the floating platform coupled with wave energy converters and/or wind turbine generators.
▪    Structural analysis of the platform and sub-systems using industry standard finite element analysis software.
▪    Technical input to design and construction of structural systems and components and the design for manufacture, operations and maintenance process.
▪    Technical review of subcontractor’s documents.
▪    Technical liaison with engineering consultants, contractors and manufacturers.
▪    Support in preparation of requirements based on the relevant design codes, standards and legislation.
▪      Preparation of technical and quality documentation including specifications, design reports and design process descriptions.
▪    Support planning and design for marine operations.
▪    Technical analyses will be required utilising various CAE methods and tools.
▪    Identification of navigational marking of the deployed systems.
▪    Technical input to risk analysis process (e.g., FMECA, HAZID, HAZOP).


The Person:

▪    Degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Civil or Structural engineering or related discipline.
▪    Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a similar technical role.
▪    Good programming skills (e.g., Python or MATLAB)
▪    An understanding of mooring analysis and design.
▪    An understanding of structural design.
▪    A genuine interest and passion for addressing the challenges of energy generation at sea.
▪    Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
▪    Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
▪    Valid UK Driving Licence.
