About the Role
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced leader to join the Steamship Authority as General Manager. Reporting directly to the Authority’s five-member Board, the General Manager is responsible for overseeing the full scope of operations—including vessels, terminals, and administration—and helping to shape the future of the ferry service to and from the islands.
We’re looking for someone with the strategic mindset and leadership confidence to step into a highly visible public-facing role, identifying areas of improvement and leading meaningful change.

What You’ll Be Doing
As General Manager, your primary responsibility is to ensure that the Steamship Authority is run efficiently, effectively, and in line with the policies set by the Board, our enabling legislation, by-laws and sound business practices. You’ll lead and inspire the entire organization while keeping customer service, safety, and long-term sustainability front and center.
What We’re Looking For
This is a complex, high-impact leadership role, so we’re looking for someone who brings a rare mix of strategic vision, operational expertise, and a strong, people-first leadership style.
Qualifications:
- A college degree is required; advanced study in management, business, or public administration is a plus.
- At least five years of proven experience in a general management or senior executive role.
- A background in maritime operations, engineering, or transportation is helpful, but not essential.
- Must either hold or be eligible to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
