Job Summary: Join our esteemed client's team as a Competence Assessment Captain, a role designed for evaluating and mentoring key deck officers in their manoeuvring capabilities. As a representative of our recruitment agency, we are collaborating with this industry-leading maritime organization to identify a professional who will play a pivotal role in assessing and training officers to meet the highest standards, preparing them to take on the responsibilities of a MASTER. This opportunity involves contributing to internal navigational audits and enhancing overall safety and compliance within the maritime operations.
 
The position will be rotational: 2 on 1 off Monthly.
 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct offshore evaluations of key officers during field operations.
  • Assess deck officers, Able Seamen, and trainees based on vessel type and specific requirements.
  • Evaluate general vessel status, including housekeeping and documentation compliance.
  • Make recommendations for deck officer upgrades, training, and promotions.
  • Collaborate with the QHSE department to provide input for training and safety observation meetings.
  • Maintain and update the Assessment register.
  • Plan and execute assessments for all crews as needed.
  • Perform Competence Assessment of Bridge personnel using the Ocean technology system training.
  • Log CBT assessment results in the crew training database.
  • Assist the vessel master and bridge crew in planning and mitigating gaps identified during assessments.
  • Ensure the implementation of Company best practices and compliance with SMS and applicable legislation.
  • Support the Vessel Master in understanding and implementing new and revised documents in the SMS.
  • Lead or assist in inspections and audits onboard Company vessels, including OVID, Internal ISM, On-Hire Survey, and more.
  • Contribute to the Master Professional Review process.
  • Regularly assess cadets and provide coaching to deck officers and Able Seamen on various improvement areas.
  • Provide expertise both onshore and offshore.
  • Conduct training sessions during maintenance phases and promote good housekeeping.
  • Prepare and brief crews before departure on sailing orders, transit guides, chart corrections, JSA, Risk assessment, PTW, etc.
  • Conduct sea trials of new vessels and after-maintenance jobs.
  • Inspect boats upon arrival at ports, brief crews on new procedures, NTM, new client requirements, and relevant topics.
  • Interact with clients offshore, explaining our client's approach to training and assessing crews.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have extensive navigation knowledge and a minimum of 10 years of work experience, with at least 5 years as a Captain of various offshore vessel types.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of competency as Master (Master Mariner preferable)
  • Electronic chart display information system training (ECDIS)
  • Bridge resource management training
  • Dynamic Positioning operators’ certificate (Unlimited)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications
