We are supporting a well-established, international maritime/ engineering business operating in the industrial gas, energy, and advanced systems space to appoint an Assistant General Manager. This is a senior, strategically important role, working closely with the Managing Director to lead operations, drive business development, and support the delivery of complex, high-value engineering systems worldwide.
The role combines hands-on leadership, strategic planning, and technical oversight, with significant international exposure and responsibility across projects, people, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager in daily operations and strategic planning
- Lead and manage engineering teams, ensuring on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery
- Oversee project progress and ensure milestones are met across global projects
- Drive continuous business development across international systems and solutions
- Lead system development and system integration activities
- Optimise cost efficiency without compromising quality or safety
- Act as a primary point of contact for customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and partners
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, service companies, owners, and shipyards worldwide
- Identify opportunities to improve operational processes and overall performance
- Represent the company globally with shipyards, customers and suppliers
- Oversee competence management and support the development of technical teams
- Travel regularly to customers, suppliers, and operational sites worldwide
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 10+ years’ relevant professional experience in engineering-led environments
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex technical operations
- Strong strategic thinking, planning, and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent understanding of technical, commercial, and regulatory processes
- Customer-focused and solution-oriented mindset
- Ability to work effectively with international customers, suppliers, and colleagues
- High willingness to travel internationally
- Very strong technical English skills (spoken and written)
