Cruise Shoreside FAQs
Looking to advance your career in cruise shoreside operations? Whether you're coming ashore from a seagoing role, progressing in your shoreside career, or returning to the cruise industry, we’re here to support your journey. Explore our FAQs below to learn more about the opportunities available, who we work with, and how to get started.
What types of cruise shoreside jobs do you recruit for?
We recruit for a wide range of mid-to-senior-level and executive positions in the cruise shoreside sector. This includes roles such as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Technical Director, Fleet Manager, Port Operations Manager, Superintendent positions across various functions, Environmental Manager, and many more.
Do you recruit for both operational and corporate roles?
We support recruitment across all key shoreside functions, from executive leadership and operations to technical, HSEQ, HR, medical, and finance positions.
What kind of companies do you work with in the cruise sector?
We partner with leading Ocean Cruise Lines, River Cruise Lines, and Expedition Cruise Lines, as well as Cruise Management companies. Our clients range from household names to niche operators looking for expert talent.
Can I apply if I don’t have previous cruise industry experience?
For many shoreside positions, previous cruise experience is preferred due to the complexity of the operations and regulatory environment. However, we do support clients open to hiring candidates with relevant experience from similar sectors such as shipping, hospitality, or healthcare, depending on the role.
Do I need seafaring experience to work in a shoreside cruise role?
Seagoing experience is highly valued (e.g. Superintendents, Fleet Managers, Technical Directors), but it's not essential for all positions. For roles in human resources, finance, medical, and corporate leadership, strong professional experience ashore is equally recognised.
Are international opportunities available?
Yes. We recruit for cruise shoreside roles across EMEA, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific. Many of our clients operate internationally and seek professionals with global experience or a willingness to relocate.
Are remote or hybrid roles common in the cruise shoreside sector?
It depends on the nature of the role and the employer. Some positions may allow for hybrid working, particularly corporate or analytical roles, while others require on-site presence at a cruise line’s head office or near port operations.
How do I register for cruise shoreside jobs?
You can register by uploading your CV and creating a profile on the Faststream Recruitment website. This enables you to apply for relevant jobs, set up personalised job alerts, and be contacted by our consultants when suitable positions arise.
What is the MLC Declaration of Conformity, and why does it matter?
We have been audited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and hold the MLC Declaration of Conformity. This certifies that our recruitment practices meet the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).
I can’t find a suitable role on your website. What should I do?
We recommend registering your CV and setting up job alerts. Many roles are confidential or filled through our specialist candidate network. Our consultants will be in touch when a suitable opportunity becomes available.
Can you support me if I’ve been out of the cruise industry for a while?
Yes. We regularly work with candidates looking to rejoin the industry. If you have relevant experience, a strong motivation to return, and are willing to update your knowledge where necessary, many employers are open to hiring returners.
