Position Overview Responsible for ensuring that nominated vessels are maintained and operated in full compliance with statutory requirements, company policies, the Safety Management System, industry best practices, and the specific requirements of vessel owners.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for all technical and operational matters relating to nominated vessels, providing guidance and support to the Master and onboard crew as required.
  • Ensure safety and environmental compliance are prioritised at all times, in alignment with statutory regulations, company policies, the Safety Management System, industry best practice, and owner expectations.
  • Closely monitor and support all operations onboard nominated vessels, ensuring they are carried out efficiently, economically, and in full compliance with relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to the company's Safety Management System, as well as all applicable flag/state requirements, class rules, vetting standards, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Superintendent to achieve shared objectives and ensure vessels are operated in accordance with the SMS and contractual obligations.
  • Manage all budgetary expenditure for nominated vessels, providing timely reporting and analysis to Fleet Managers and vessel owners where required.
  • Ensure vessels operate within established KPIs while maintaining a strong focus on safety, operational reliability, and pollution prevention.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and owners, maintaining high levels of service, communication, and satisfaction while protecting the interests of both the company and its employees.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation for senior officers, supporting safe vessel operations as well as career development and progression for seagoing staff.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Technical Superintendent work instructions and ensure all associated tasks are completed for nominated vessels.
  • Monitor and optimise vessel and crew performance, ensuring that adequate resources, support, and guidance are provided.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on seafarer performance, identifying development needs and setting clear goals and expectations.
  • Participate as a member of the shore‑based Emergency Response Team when required.
  • Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the Fleet Manager as reasonably required.
Requirements
  • Engineer Officer qualification with a First-Class Chief Engineer's Motor License from an IMO‑whitelist country; or
  • Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of sailing experience as Chief Engineer onboard; or
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Technical Superintendent within the maritime industry ashore.
  • Salary will be aligned with the candidate's level of experience.
