Faststream Recruitment is working in partnership with a leading energy transition consultancy to recruit for a Technical Safety Engineer with Nuclear experience. The client operate in all energy sectors like renewable energy such as floating wind, wave and tidal stream developers, marine installation contractors, hydrogen, sustainability projects and all areas of Oil & Gas Engineering.

The Role -
As the Technical Safety Engineer (Fire Specialist) you will join the clients to assist with the nuclear projects team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the fire engineering requirements comply with all applicable safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices. As a Technical Safety Engineer, you will work closely with other engineers, project managers, stakeholders and architects to identify and mitigate potential hazards, develop and implement safety plans, provide technical guidance on safety matters related to nuclear projects and have a real understanding of the MAGIC software needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety studies and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop appropriate risk mitigation measures for outbreak of fire.

  • Monitor the models and the changes issued by all the engineering teams (change of positioning of cable trays, electrical cabinets, ventilation ducts, etc.)

  • Provide technical guidance and expertise on safety matters related to fire engineering.

  • Using the 3D model, calculation methodologies and fire requirements issued by the architect engineer or the client :

  • Develop and implement safety plans, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards related to nuclear projects.

  • Performing temperature change calculations over time for a simulated fire (modelling of various situations using the MAGIC software)

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing nuclear safety systems and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Analysing the 3D model and identification of the various combustible materials present.

Requirements: 

  • Ideal candidate will have Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field

  • Professional certification in Safety Engineering or a related field is preferred

  • Experience with arranging zones for fire protection in buildings

  • Able to provide detailed fire protection calculations

  • Make strong recommendations on fire detection and firefighting methods

  • understanding of nuclear regulations and procedure

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
