Job Title: Permitting Officer & Route EngineerJob 

The Client is a specialised data and cable route engineering consultancy, part of a Global Consultancy, known for installing and maintaining critical subsea cable networks worldwide.

Purpose:Exciting opportunity to join as a Permitting Officer & Route Engineer within a small, dynamic team of geologists, marine surveyors, GIS experts, and permitting specialists.

Role Overview:
Full-time position supporting permitting and route engineering projects, working closely with the Permitting Manager and Route Planning Manager. Responsibilities include obtaining permits and licenses, stakeholder liaison, supporting environmental assessments, and contributing to the design of power and fiber optic cable routes.

Key Deliverables:
- Assist in obtaining permits, licenses, and approvals for cable system projects.
- Develop relationships in marine, coastal, and terrestrial environments affected by submarine telecom and power industries.
- Generate cable route position lists and straight line diagrams.
- Conduct research on cable routing influences.
- Travel worldwide to investigate potential landing points and meet with in-country agencies.
- Contribute to the continual update of internal permitting databases.
- Prepare and manage GIS databases for desktop studies.
- Assess marine survey data for cable routing and burial analysis.
- Present internally and externally on work undertaken.
 

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Required:
- GIS software proficiency (Intergraph GeoMedia/ESRI) or equivalent.
- Degree in earth sciences (Hydrographic Surveying, Marine Geophysics, Applied Marine Geoscience, Survey and GIS, Geography).
- Basic understanding of marine environmental sensitivities/ecological pressures.
- Strong technical report writing skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to learn and develop new skills.
- Attention to detail and logical approach.
- Computer literacy.

Ideal:
- Full UK Driving License.

Location and Schedule:
Chelmsford office-based role three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), with remote work on Monday and Friday.
