Marine HR & Compliance Specialist – Superyacht Sector

We are seeking an experienced Marine HR & Compliance Specialist to support yacht owners, managers, and crew teams with all aspects of human resources and compliance. This is a highly hands-on role, ideal for someone with prior superyacht HR experience who can confidently handle complex HR matters independently.

This position is office-based, available in both Southampton and Guernsey. Applicants must have current and valid Right to Work in their chosen location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert HR and compliance advice to yacht owners, managers, captains, crew, and legal advisors.
  • Manage crew employment and payroll processes, including recruitment, contracts, terms and conditions, policies, procedures, and performance management.
  • Confidently handle conflict resolution, investigations, and HR-related queries without the need for further guidance or training.
  • Advise and support on disciplinary issues, grievances, capability concerns, sickness, and unfair dismissal, attending hearings where necessary.
  • Ensure timely implementation of HR policies and compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006).
  • Contribute to HR initiatives, policy development, and technical support for the HR and Compliance team.
  • Manage and mentor junior HR staff, including performance appraisals and guidance.
  • Represent the organization professionally in client meetings, industry events, and external engagements.
  • Promote an inclusive and professional workplace culture, acting as a role model for staff.
Essential Requirements
  • Prior experience in superyacht HR or marine HR environments.
  • Confident in managing conflict resolution, investigations, and HR queries independently.
  • CIPD Level 3 or 5 HR qualification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of crew qualifications, seafarer employment, and MLC, 2006 compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a calm, approachable, and non-judgmental style.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Fluent in English.
