Faststream are working with a leading Scottish Technical Publisher to recruit a GIS Technician initially to work on a fixed-term basis.

The primary focus of the role will be to update and expand my clients range of navigational atlases used by merchant shipping. My clients range of Passage Planning Guides provides guidance on the safety of navigation in the world’s most challenging navigational areas, including the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, the Great Barrier Reef, the Baltic Sea, Panama Canal, plus other critical regions.

The successful candidate will help ensure that my clients maritime information products are produced with accuracy, efficiency and are maintained properly. They will perform data capture and cartography alongside routine data management tasks. Maritime knowledge, specifically navigation at sea, is not essential but would be advantageous.

The ideal GIS Technician will have experience of using ArcGIS Pro to create maps and manage data sets. They will have knowledge of FME, geoprocessing tools, ModelBuilder and scripting, together with an awareness of administration for ArcGIS desktop and Arc Online.

Responsibilities include:
• Produce and update cartographic products and navigational charts
• FME of nautical data from ENC cells and other sources
• Create, integrate and maintain geospatial datasets and databases
• Create Web Map Services for use in ArcGIS Desktop and my clients ArcGIS Portal
• Maintain the Maritime Chart Service component of Esri ArcGIS Enterprise
• Create custom basemaps and symbology
• Manage IHO S-63 & S-57 ENC update schedules within the Maritime Chart Service
• Follow and improve workflow processes and maintain project-related documentation
• Provide advice and support to other projects as required

Desirable Skills and Knowledge include:
Familiarity with, or interest in, the following:
• Competent Esri ArcGIS Pro user
• Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and Portal for ArcGIS
• Experience with scripting (Arcade/Python/VBScript), and process automation–ModelBuilder
• Use of Adobe Illustrator
• A passion for anything maritime or nautical; navigational knowledge is desirable
• Interest in developing new products and improving existing products
