The Fleet Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of an assigned fleet of vessels. As a senior leadership role, this position ensures all operations comply with company procedures, industry regulations, and best practices in ship management, with a strong commitment to safeguarding life at sea and protecting the environment. The role also oversees administrative and operational functions of the UK office, requiring strong leadership, financial acumen, and a focus on operational excellence.

Role and Responsibilities Fleet Operations & Performance
- Oversee the technical management of the fleet on a daily basis, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- Lead strategic projects to enhance vessel performance and operational standards.
- Establish and maintain robust processes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Analyze performance data, budgets, PMS reports, and KPIs to monitor fleet health and efficiency.
- Conduct vessel visits, including drydock supervision, to assess condition, crew performance, safety compliance, and procedural effectiveness.
- Manage pre-purchase vessel inspections when required.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental protection protocols.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring clear and timely communication.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of third-party managers responsible for company vessels.
- Lead and mentor a team of Vessel Managers, Marine Managers, and a Purchaser in day-to-day fleet management.
- Provide guidance and motivation to achieve company objectives related to safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Set, monitor, and review KPIs for team performance and vessel operations.
- Manage budgets for docking, maintenance, repairs, procurement, and stores.
- Benchmark vendors to ensure cost efficiency while maintaining high operational standards.
- Make sound technical decisions with careful consideration of commercial implications.
- Oversee all administrative and operational functions of the UK office.
- Coordinate with HR, IT, and administrative teams to ensure smooth business operations.
- Ensure compliance with local office health and safety regulations.
- Class 1 Certificate of Competency with a minimum of 2 years’ sailing experience as Chief Engineer.
- At least 5 years’ experience as a Fleet Manager, overseeing a team and managing a fleet of 20+ vessels (container or tanker experience considered).
- Strong knowledge of shore-based operations and the wider implications of the role.
- Proven ability to manage technical, operational, and financial responsibilities.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks and current technological developments in the maritime industry.
- Proficiency in using modern vessel performance and management software.
- Previous drydock management experience.
- Familiarity with PMS and SMS systems.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop multinational teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Experience in leading multicultural teams is advantageous.
