Faststream Recruitment, in partnership with The Virgin Islands Shipping & Maritime Authority (VISMA), is seeking an experienced and driven maritime professional to serve as Deputy Chief Marine Surveyor. This high-impact leadership role supports the Chief Marine Surveyor in the oversight and administration of all marine and nautical survey activities within the Virgin Islands fleet and ports, ensuring statutory compliance with national laws and international maritime conventions.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and supervise nautical and marine surveys, ensuring compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM/ISPS, and Load Line conventions.
- Review and approve ship security plans and perform ISM/ISPS audits.
- Investigate maritime incidents and provide actionable recommendations.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team, driving performance, KPIs, and succession planning.
- Represent the organisation at technical meetings, conferences, and client consultations.
- Deliver training and guidance to junior officers, supporting workforce development.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards across all survey and inspection activities.
- Support the Chief Marine Surveyor in policy development, operational oversight, and strategic initiatives.
Who I’m Looking For
- Qualifications: Master (3000 GT or more) Certificate of Competency, Extra Master Certificate, or Bachelor’s in Nautical Science.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Surveyor, including senior or leadership experience in a flag state administration or classification society.
- Deep understanding of maritime regulations, codes, and conventions.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and team management experience.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, commercially-focused environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact confidently with clients and stakeholders.
