My client are specialists in engineering design, clean technology and technical consultancy for the marine and offshore environments. They are looking for an Analytical Engineer to join the team, this person will work as part of the analysis team alongside three others, undertaking specific projects and supporting other departments. The team specialise in hydrodynamics, structural analysis and fatigue.
The Role:
This involves concept and design work through to analysis of existing structures, deriving operating limits and assessing failures. They require a proactive problem-solving engineer, keen to learn and absorb new skills.
Key Responsibilities-
- Calculate and give advice/assistance in assessing vessel performance (motions/stability/strength)
- Ability to interpret and understand client requirements and develop scopes
- Conduct and check calculations
- Interface with various Classification societies to understand requirements, interpreting rules and regulations
- Present calculations/work to clients and write technical reports
- Ensure that all design work is performed, reviewed, checked and approved in accordance with the engineering procedures or when specified to a Project Quality Plan
- Good understanding of hydrodynamics, simple dynamic systems and stochastic analysis methods
- A well-developed understanding of the fundamentals of structural design
- Experience in dynamic time domain simulations using Orcaflex or equivalent
- Some familiarity with fatigue analysis
- Experience in deriving limits for offshore operations
- Good report writing skills, able to communicate in a clear and concise way
- Having insight to know when models and simulations are not preforming as expected
- Able to interpret calculations to ensure that the results are realistic
Essential- BEng (Hons), MEng or MSc (or equivalent) in Naval Architecture or other relevant subject (minimum Class 2:1/Distinction (or equivalent foreign awarding academic body)
Preferred- Associate Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects or similar marine related professional body
Desirable Software includes- Orcaflex, ANSYS, Python and Excel
