Job title: Sustainability & Public Affairs Manager
Recruitment Type: Exclusive to Faststream Recruitment
Business Type: Oil and Gas Vessel Owner
Location: Houston, US
Key Stakeholders: Talent Acquisition Manager
Faststream Recruitment Representative: Matthew Barwell, Executive Consultant, Faststream Recruitment Americas
Our client is an oil and gas vessel owner based in Houston, working at the forefront of the evolving energy landscape. They were looking to appoint a Sustainability & Public Affairs Manager to play a key role in shaping and delivering their sustainability strategy.
This position sat at the intersection of ESG, policy, and stakeholder engagement, with responsibility for sustainability reporting, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and supporting the business in its response to energy transition and climate-related developments.
The Challenge
This was a highly specialised brief requiring a rare combination of skills. The successful candidate needed deep expertise in ESG reporting frameworks such as GHG Protocol, TCFD, GRI, and SASB, alongside the ability to operate at a strategic level and engage confidently with senior stakeholders.
The talent pool was limited, particularly for individuals who could combine technical knowledge with strong communication skills and external representation. In addition, the role was time-sensitive due to ongoing sustainability reporting cycles and business priorities.
The Solution
A speculative CV submission proved to be a strong match, demonstrating the value of proactive candidate engagement.
We conducted a thorough screening process to assess technical capability, stakeholder management experience, and cultural alignment. From there, we managed a streamlined interview process, ensuring the client and candidate remained aligned throughout.
Close collaboration was key. We maintained regular communication with the client, adapting our approach based on feedback and providing insight into the talent market. We also supported offer management and preboarding to ensure the successful candidate was secured quickly and transitioned smoothly into the role.
The Results
The role was successfully filled within one week, securing a candidate with the specialist ESG and public affairs expertise required.
This hire has strengthened the client’s ability to deliver on sustainability reporting and ESG strategy, while also enhancing their external positioning and stakeholder engagement across key areas of energy transition and public policy.
Additional Benefits
Rapid delivery of a niche hire within a highly competitive market
Access to specialist talent through proactive candidate engagement
Reduced internal resource requirements through a fully managed process
Ongoing market insight and advisory support throughout the assignment
