Find out more about:

Why you should relocate to Glasgow

Glasgow is regarded as one of the most thriving cities in the UK and was even voted as the City of Culture in 2019. There is so much to do, and the city attracts tourists and expatriates from all over the world. Glasgow offers a unique blend of city life but the surrounding rural areas are fantastic if you want to escape the hustle and bustle.

What to do in Glasgow

Glasgow is home to many restaurants, bars, and pubs, which are mainly located in the West End of the city. There are also many museums, art galleries, and great shopping options. As one of the most recognised culture hubs of the UK, there is something for everyone, no matter what their interests. Some popular attractions that may interest you include:

Getting around the city

Glasgow boasts many fantastic transport links, making commuting around the city easy for everyone. However, fewer residents and visitors drive as parking can be hard to come by and expensive, especially in the more central parts of the city.

There are many bus and train links, as well as a subway, which are the most popular modes of transport for commuters as they run so frequently. Glasgow’s train links are the most sophisticated and urban outside of London.

Education

Glasgow is home to some of the UK’s most respectable, influential schools, and has a strong global reputation for academic research. The city also has one of the greatest student populations in the UK and is home to over 149 primary schools, 29 secondary schools and four universities – all within a 10-mile radius of the city centre.

Accommodation

There are four major areas of the city, including the city centre, the East End, the West End, the South Side, and North Glasgow. The most popular area is the city centre as it is close to all major attractions, but accommodation costs tend to be higher.

Renting a one-bedroom apartment in the city centre will cost approximately £660.00 plus per month, with an apartment outside the centre costing approximately £480.00 per month. Of course, larger properties have higher rental costs and can range anywhere above £1,000 per month.

We suggest contacting a local real estate agent who will be able to source the best properties that are suited to your requirements.

Cost of living

The cost of living in Glasgow remains typically low for a major city, however, this is relative to the personal outgoings and living requirements of the individual. Although living costs are considered low, it is still important to remember that Glasgow is a city and costs are more expensive when compared to rural locations across the UK.

However, the cost of living in Glasgow is 63% lower than in London.
