Executive Search for a Vice President to Drive Growth Across Canada's Maritime Government Sector

Role: Vice President, Global Government Canada
Business Type: Classification and Maritime Technology Organisation
Location: Canada
Solution: Executive Search
Stakeholders Involved: Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Business Leaders
A leading global maritime classification and technology organisation partnered with Faststream Executive Search to appoint a Vice President, Global Government Canada.
Following a longstanding relationship supporting senior leadership appointments, the organisation engaged Faststream to identify an executive capable of strengthening its presence across the Canadian government maritime sector and driving future commercial growth.

The Challenge

This was a highly specialised executive appointment requiring a rare combination of technical expertise, commercial leadership and established relationships within Canada's maritime government community.

The successful candidate needed to combine extensive maritime engineering knowledge with experience working alongside organisations such as the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada. They also required proven business development capability, credibility with senior government stakeholders and a strong understanding of complex procurement and regulatory environments.

The available talent pool was exceptionally limited. While many professionals possessed either deep technical expertise or commercial leadership experience, very few had successfully developed both throughout their careers.

In addition, the client required an executive capable of representing the organisation at the highest levels while supporting long-term government strategy, strategic partnerships and future business development initiatives.

Our Executive Search Solution

Faststream Executive Search conducted a retained search focused exclusively on identifying senior leaders from across the Canadian naval, government and maritime sectors.

Our consultants completed an extensive market mapping exercise covering:

  • Senior leaders from the Royal Canadian Navy

  • Canadian Coast Guard executives

  • Government shipbuilding and procurement specialists

  • Maritime engineering and naval architecture professionals

  • Classification society and marine consultancy leaders

  • Defence and government maritime contractors

Through detailed market intelligence, confidential networking and targeted executive engagement, we developed a carefully assessed shortlist of candidates who met the client's technical, commercial and leadership requirements.

Particular emphasis was placed on evaluating each executive's ability to influence senior government stakeholders, develop strategic partnerships, navigate complex procurement processes and represent the organisation across major maritime programmes.

Throughout the assignment, Faststream worked closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer and senior business leaders to ensure alignment on candidate quality, cultural fit and long-term strategic potential.

The Outcome

Faststream successfully appointed an experienced maritime executive with more than two decades of leadership experience across government, defence and the wider maritime sector.

The successful candidate brought extensive expertise in naval architecture, marine engineering, programme management, capital projects and government procurement. Their background included senior leadership positions supporting major defence and shipbuilding programmes, alongside significant experience managing strategic stakeholder relationships across government organisations.

The appointment strengthened the organisation's position within the Canadian government maritime market, enhancing its ability to build strategic partnerships, support major government programmes and drive long-term business growth across a strategically important region.
