Connecting an International Maritime Organisation with an Exceptional Board Leader

Job Title: Non-Executive Director (NED)
Recruitment Type: Executive Search
Business Type: Global Maritime Organisation
Location: Singapore
Executive Search Consultant:Mark Charman
A leading international maritime organisation partnered with Faststream Executive Search to strengthen its Board through the appointment of an additional Non-Executive Director.
Having supported the organisation for more than two decades, Faststream has developed trusted relationships across both executive leadership and Board-level stakeholders, giving our team a deep understanding of the organisation's strategic direction, culture and long-term ambitions.

The Challenge

The organisation was seeking a Non-Executive Director who could bring independent insight, international leadership experience and strong commercial judgement to its Board.

The successful individual needed to possess significant executive leadership experience within global shipping, alongside a proven ability to support organisations through strategic growth, transformation and governance at Board level.

Rather than launching a traditional executive search, the appointment required identifying an individual whose experience, values and leadership style closely aligned with the organisation's future direction.

Finding this calibre of Board-level talent relies on long-term relationships, market knowledge and access to highly accomplished executives, many of whom are not actively seeking new opportunities.

Our Executive Search Solution

Having built a trusted relationship with a highly respected maritime executive over many years, Faststream became aware that the individual was preparing to step down from a long-standing chief executive position within the shipping sector.

Through ongoing career discussions, it became clear that the executive was interested in pursuing Non-Executive Director and Board Advisory opportunities with high-quality international organisations.

Recognising the strong alignment between the executive's background and the client's Board requirements, Faststream made a carefully considered introduction to the Chairman, drawing on our detailed understanding of both the executive's capabilities and the organisation's strategic objectives.

Following the introduction, the client conducted a structured Board selection process, allowing the executive to meet key stakeholders and demonstrate their suitability for the role.

The Outcome

The process concluded with the successful appointment of an experienced international maritime leader as a Non-Executive Director.

The appointee brought more than three decades of executive leadership experience across the global maritime and energy sectors, including extensive public company Board experience and a proven track record of delivering strategic growth, organisational transformation and long-term value creation.

The appointment further strengthened the organisation's Board, adding valuable strategic insight and governance expertise to support its continued international growth.

This case demonstrates how long-term relationships, deep sector knowledge and a highly connected executive network enable Faststream Executive Search to identify exceptional Board talent, even where a formal executive search process has not yet begun.

Looking to strengthen your Board?

The best Board appointments are not always the result of a traditional search. They often come from trusted relationships, deep market intelligence and access to exceptional leaders at the right point in their careers.

Faststream Executive Search has been helping maritime organisations identify and appoint Board members and senior executives since 1999. Whether you are looking to appoint a Non-Executive Director, Chair, Chief Executive Officer or another critical leadership role, our specialist consultants connect organisations with outstanding leaders who can shape long-term success.
