Executive Search for a Legal Director to Support International Growth and Governance

Job Title: Legal Director
Recruitment Type: Executive Search
Business Type: Global Maritime Organisation
Location: Europe
Key Stakeholders: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO)
A leading international maritime organisation partnered with Faststream Executive Search to appoint a Legal Director as part of a wider executive leadership transformation programme.
Following a significant acquisition and organisational restructuring, the business was entering a new phase of international growth and required an experienced legal leader to strengthen governance, manage legal risk and support its expanding global operations.

The Challenge

The appointment formed part of a broader executive leadership transformation programme and was essential to supporting the organisation's continued international expansion.

The Legal Director would provide strategic leadership across legal affairs, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, commercial contracting and dispute management while acting as a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team.

The client required a commercially minded legal executive who could balance legal expertise with strategic business thinking. The successful candidate needed to support the integration of acquired businesses, manage legal matters across multiple jurisdictions and help the organisation navigate increasingly complex international regulatory environments.

The available talent pool was highly specialised. While many candidates possessed strong legal credentials, few combined international leadership experience with expertise in corporate governance, commercial risk management and multinational operations.

The search also needed to be completed within an accelerated timeframe alongside two additional executive leadership appointments.

Our Executive Search Solution

Faststream Executive Search worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership team to understand the organisation's growth strategy, operating model and future leadership requirements.

A targeted international executive search was launched across maritime and adjacent sectors, including logistics and infrastructure, to identify senior legal leaders with experience supporting globally operating organisations.

The search focused on executives with expertise in:

  • International operations and multi-jurisdictional environments

  • Corporate governance and regulatory compliance

  • Commercial contracts and legal risk management

  • Mergers, acquisitions and business integration

  • Executive stakeholder engagement

  • Leading legal functions across multiple countries

Our consultants completed a comprehensive market mapping exercise across Europe and the Middle East, identifying and engaging exceptional legal leaders with the experience required to support the organisation's next stage of growth.

The Outcome

Faststream successfully appointed an experienced international Legal Director with an impressive track record of leading legal functions within multinational organisations.

The successful candidate brought extensive expertise in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, commercial contracting, dispute resolution and cross-border transactions. They had previously held senior legal leadership positions across multiple countries, advising executive leadership teams while managing legal risk in highly regulated international environments.

Their appointment strengthened the organisation's legal and governance capability during a pivotal period of transformation, providing executive leadership with a trusted strategic adviser to support international growth, manage risk and enable the successful integration of acquired businesses.

Together with the successful appointments of a Chief Financial Officer and Global HR Director, this search formed part of a wider executive leadership build-out that positioned the organisation for its next phase of international growth.
