Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Recruitment Type: Executive Search
Business Type: Global Maritime Organisation
Location: Europe
Key Stakeholders: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Head of Talent.
A leading international maritime organisation commissioned Faststream Executive Search to appoint a Chief Financial Officer as part of a wider executive leadership transformation programme.
Following a significant acquisition and organisational restructuring, the business was entering its next phase of international growth. The Chief Executive Officer required a commercially focused finance leader capable of strengthening financial governance while supporting continued expansion across multiple global markets.
The Challenge
The appointment was one of several strategic executive hires being delivered simultaneously and was critical to the organisation's future success.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the new Chief Financial Officer would be responsible for leading the financial strategy of a complex international business, overseeing governance, risk management, business planning, capital allocation, mergers and acquisitions, and organisational performance across multiple jurisdictions.
Finding the right individual presented several challenges.
The client required a leader with deep international finance experience, proven success leading mergers, acquisitions and post-acquisition integration, and the credibility to operate as a trusted strategic adviser to both the Chief Executive Officer and Board.
The available talent pool was extremely limited. Few executives possessed the combination of maritime knowledge, multinational leadership experience and commercial expertise needed to succeed in such a high-profile position.
The search also required access to executives with experience operating across diverse regulatory environments, leading geographically dispersed finance teams and supporting businesses through periods of rapid transformation.
Our Executive Search Solution
Faststream Executive Search worked closely with the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership team to gain a detailed understanding of the organisation's strategic objectives, operating model and leadership requirements.
A bespoke international executive search was launched, targeting senior finance leaders across maritime and adjacent industries, including logistics and infrastructure, where executives had managed similarly complex global organisations.
The search focused on identifying leaders with expertise in:
International financial leadership
Mergers, acquisitions and post-acquisition integration
Board and shareholder engagement
Capital allocation and investment strategy
Business transformation and organisational growth
Leadership of multinational finance functions
Our Executive Search consultants completed an extensive market mapping exercise spanning Europe, the Middle East and Asia, enabling us to identify and engage highly qualified executives who were not actively seeking new opportunities.
The Outcome
Faststream successfully appointed an internationally recognised Chief Financial Officer with more than 30 years of executive and Board-level finance leadership experience across global organisations.
The successful candidate had led complex multinational finance functions, overseen major acquisitions and divestments, delivered refinancing and capital investment programmes, and supported businesses operating across multiple countries, cultures and regulatory frameworks.
Their appointment strengthened the organisation's executive leadership team, providing the strategic financial expertise needed to integrate acquired businesses, enhance financial governance and support the next stage of international growth.
