Faststream is partnering with a privately owned ship owner based in the Cayman Islands to recruit a Vessel Operations Manager responsible for the day-to-day management of one company-owned dry cargo vessel.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly alongside the vessel owner, overseeing the commercial and operational performance of the vessel while coordinating with trusted third-party partners responsible for technical management and crewing, port agency and chartering support.
If you're looking for a broad, hands-on role where you can genuinely make an impact, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day commercial and operational performance of a single company-owned dry cargo vessel.
- Act as the primary shore-based point of contact for the vessel, working closely with the Master and technical manager.
- Oversee the performance of the third-party technical manager, ensuring maintenance, compliance and operational issues are managed effectively.
- Coordinate with the company's crewing partners to oversee crew changes, travel arrangements, visas and related administration.
- Review and approve crew bonuses and other operational matters.
- Liaise with the company's in-house port agent to ensure efficient execution of port calls and cargo operations.
- Monitor vessel schedules, voyage progress and operational performance.
- Review port costs, bunker requirements and voyage expenses to support efficient vessel operations.
- Work alongside the company's appointed broker to review charter opportunities, charter parties and voyage execution when required.
- Resolve operational issues and maintain strong relationships with owners, agents, suppliers and service providers.
We're looking for someone with experience in vessel operations who enjoys taking ownership and working across a broad range of responsibilities.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Vessel Operator, Vessel Operations Manager or similar shore-based operations role.
- Experience managing dry bulk, breakbulk or general cargo vessels.
- Strong understanding of voyage execution, vessel scheduling and port operations.
- Experience coordinating with Masters, technical managers, agents and service providers.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of voyage costs and charter party fundamentals.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- The ability to work independently within a small, collaborative business.
This role offers the opportunity to become a key member of a small shipping company where your contribution will have a direct impact on the success of the business.
Rather than managing part of a fleet, you'll take responsibility for the operational management of a single vessel, working closely with the owner and playing a central role in its day-to-day operation.
Progression and future career opportunities are available in the company.
Relocation assistance is available for candidates moving to the Cayman Islands.
