A leading ship management organisation is seeking an experienced Vessel Manager / Technical Superintendent with Gas Carrier expertise to join its technical team in London.
The role is responsible for the safe, reliable, and cost‑effective technical management of a small fleet of Gas Carrier vessels, acting as the primary point of contact for all technical matters and ensuring full compliance with regulatory, class, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the technical operation of 3–5 Gas Carrier vessels, ensuring safe, efficient, and fully compliant operations
- Plan, oversee, and execute maintenance and repair activities, including dry‑dockings, surveys, and major overhauls
- Monitor vessel condition and performance, including machinery reliability, fuel efficiency, and planned maintenance system compliance
- Conduct regular vessel inspections (typically 2–3 per vessel per year) and ensure timely close‑out of findings
- Prepare, manage, and control annual technical budgets, tracking expenditure and reporting variances as required
- Coordinate procurement and logistics of spares, services, and repairs through technical support teams and purchasers
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and class survey requirements, maintaining awareness of due dates and certifications
- Liaise closely with terminals, charterers, and operations teams to minimise downtime and operational disruption
- Support incident response and investigations, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing preventative actions
- Represent owners and managers during vettings, audits, inspections, and pre‑purchase or takeover activities
- Provide accurate and timely technical reporting to fleet management and stakeholders
- Maintain strong working relationships with Masters and Chief Engineers, providing technical leadership and guidance
- Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or equivalent senior engineering qualification
- Proven shore‑based experience as a Vessel Manager or Technical Superintendent, or strong readiness to transition ashore
- Mandatory experience with Gas Carriers (LNG, LPG, or other gas carrier types)
- Strong technical knowledge of shipboard machinery and marine systems
- Sound understanding of SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, and relevant class and flag‑state regulations
- Fluent in English with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Hands‑on, proactive, and structured approach to technical management
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capability
- Able to remain composed and analytical in time‑critical situations
- Willing and able to travel internationally for vessel visits, dockings, and inspections
